Detailed Position Information The Department of Geological Sciences at the University of Alabama invites applications from all areas of geoscience concerning the exploration and evaluation of critical mineral resources. This position will be filled at the Assistant Professor level and begins in August 2024. We welcome candidates with expertise in mineralogy, petrology, economic geology, geochemistry, geophysics, or other fields related to critical mineral resources. Applicants must have a strong record of research experience and publication in earth resources, and they must have a Ph.D. in a relevant geoscience field by the time of their appointment. Candidates with industry or government experience are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to establish a vigorous, externally funded research program and to recruit and advise highly productive graduate students. Teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate and graduate courses in the candidate’s specialty and in introductory geology. Geological Sciences and the University provide access to a broad range of geochemical, geophysical, and computational facilities. Minimum Qualifications Ph.D. in a relevant geoscience field by the time of their appointment.
Preferred Qualifications Post-doctoral, national laboratory/agency or mineral industry research experience.
