Post-Doctoral position on a NSF-funded project focusing on characterizing the transformations and pathways of organic sulfur in aquatic sediments.
Perform research into the biogeochemical cycling of sulfur in freshwater sediments, particularly into the mineralization pathways of organic sulfur compounds and their subsequent microbially-mediated cycling within sediment. Fieldwork will include participation in oceanographic cruises on the Great Lakes and limnological sampling in smaller water bodies.
Work within an interdisciplinary research team of faculty and graduate students, coordinating activities and exchange of ideas.
Publish research results in peer-reviewed journals, including serving as lead author on manuscripts.
Perform general lab duties and coordination of lab activities and logistics.
Contribute to supervision of graduate students.
PhD in aquatic geochemistry or related field.
Demonstrated record of research productivity, as evidenced by scholarly publications in peer-reviewed journals or other products.
Demonstrated proficiency in analytical wet chemistry or organic geochemistry.
Ability to participate in limnological and oceanographic fieldwork.
Proficiency in written and oral communication in English.
Familiarity with sediment geochemistry, especially the cycling of sulfur.
Experience with advanced analytical techniques for characterizing geochemical cycling at low concentrations and slow rates.
Experience with numerical modeling.
Familiarity with the geomicrobiological aspects of geochemical cycling in aquatic environments.
Experience in oceanographic or limnological field and laboratory work.
Experience supervising graduate students or junior personnel.
Successful grant writing experience.
